let them eat cake

John and I had such a good time on our anniversary ... we ate some yummy salad at Sweet Tomatoes -- where we had first date four years earlier -- toasted to some champagne given to us at our wedding reception and enjoyed some cake.

This is what our delicious and oh-so-cute wedding cake looked like one year ago ...

(I highly recommend our baker times a million -- Morning Star Cakes. We picked our cake just based on looks because we didn't have time to drive to San Luis Obispo for a cake-tasting and I decided to chose looks over taste because I thought all wedding cakes were just meh -- but it ended up being the yummiest wedding cake I've ever tasted. No joke. Oh, so good!)

And here's what the top we saved looked like Tuesday night.

Does anyone know the meaning behind the tradition of saving a piece of your wedding cake and eating it a year later? Because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It's like, congrats, you two lovebirds made it through the first year of marriage -- and as a reward, you get to eat some year-old cake! hahah. Oh wells, traditions are a nice thing.

You wanna see if we actually ate some of this freezer burned-goodness?

Well, after being inspired by shelikespurple wedding cake post, we made a little video for your viewing pleasure! Check it out! :)

Oh, and I can't explain why I start it off by saying "My name is Sarah." Um, duh! I think you should know by now my name is Sarah, unless you stumbled over to this blog by accident -- but then you should still notice the header at the top. Ha. I'm a big nerdface!

Did you save a piece of your wedding cake and eat it a year later or are you planning to? There's another tradition that if an unmarried person sleeps with a piece of a wedding cake under their pillow, they will dream of their future spouse that night. Or maybe they'll dream that their hair is now full of frosting. Hmmm.

Oh my goodness.

That was the most adorable video ever.

Ever in the whole history of bloggy videos.

Now I want to come hang out with you and Johnny!!

I totally laughed aloud (uh, at my desk!) when he said, "Don't feed me the part with icicles!"

Ah-dorable. :)

Cuties!! I want to do a video of me making grilled cheese soon. I think it would be quite entertaining. (Um... maybe no?)

OMG this made me laugh so hard! Things I loved about the video:

1.) Your MaryKate plaid shirt
2.) the sounds you two make after the first bite
3.) John's resistant to icicles

boo. can't watch the video until I go home. but I can say that we didn't save our cake, not do we really remember eating much of it. but, we were married in hawaii which was a 4 hour plane ride plus five hour drive away from our home ... it wouldn't have lasted the trip ;)

You guys are so funny and cute! Jon and I saved our topper and ate it a year later too...I didn't cry one tear on our wedding day but I totally cried when we ate the topper!

hahaha! You guys are so cute. I can't believe your cake was good enough for a second bite. We took special care in preserving ours... and that first bite was so gross we couldn't even finish it. I guess keeping it in the bakery box is the key.

(Have fun on your vaca!)

Hmm... hope you saved some of the cake! I think you should slip an icicle-laden piece under my pillow. I could use some lovey-dovey dreams. I'd even be willing to scrub the frosting out of my white sheets!

TOOO CUUUUTE!! Oh my goodness, seriously, so adorable. I love it when bloggers I don't actually know in real life post videos, because it's so neat to hear the voices that go with the words. And you know what? your voice sounds EXACTLY like I would have imagined it. :)
I am quite impressed that you guys actually kept yours for the whole year. Jeremy and I were so scared of the afore-mentioned freezer burn ruining our yummy cake that we ate it on our one-MONTH anniversary. We're such cheaters. :)
Your cake was beautiful, by the way!

I think I will pass on that tradition when it comes...that's kind of pretty scary. Plus, I could put more yummy things in my freezer that aren't a year old. haha.

Okay, so this just makes me want to hang out with you two even more. I love it! You are so adorable together! You could have a series of videos of you guys eating things, and it would never get old. Heehee.

Hope you're enjoying your anniversary trip! It's so great to see another young married couple so in love. Makes me happy. :)

PS: Our wedding cake topper is still in our freezer. After 2.5 years of marriage. I keep wanting to take it out and just monch on it, because we keep forgetting on our anniversaries. By three years it's going to be pretty much toxic, right? Yikes...not sure if I'd want to do a video for ours, then...

How had I not watched this yet?? (oh yeah maybe because I'm a horrible blogger friend) but you two are so adorable! We did not save our top because I'm not a fan of old food and Cale won't even eat leftovers after one day. On our actual anniversary we had chocolate covered strawberries instead because we both like those better :)

Okay I gotta say even tho I truly l.o.l. at this video, it did not make me want cake. I loved the moment when you were both waiting on your taste buds to break the news. I dont know what the significance of eating the cake a year latr is but I totally get the idea behind flming it ;-)

PS you talk like Jimaie! cute!

pss- HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
