home alone!

Yep, that's right. I'm home alone. Shhhh! Don't tell anyone! But don't worry, I'm not scared. This place is totally booby-trapped Macaulay Culkin-style.

I had the weirdest sleep Wednesday night. After planning to go to sleep early (yeah right!) Johnny and I didn't get to bed until 1 a.m. Then I woke up at 4:15 a.m. to drop off Johnny at the airport by 4:30 a.m. Who books a flight that early?! Craziness.

Now my boy is in Boston on a business trip until next Wednesday. Again, outta control. SEVEN DAYS!! :[ Ugh. That's forever! Since I'm a sentimental fool, of course I miss him already.

Wanna know what I did on my first night home alone?

I went to Target, tried on some clothes and shoes (unfortunately didn't find anything I liked), got some essentials and a lovely tangerine/melon soy candle.

Then I hunkered down for the night with the cats, a movie and a klassy dinner -- Frito boats! (with veggie chili, of course! Oh, plus some sour cream and Tillamook extra sharp cheddar cheese.)

Even though this basically looks like dog food, you know it's delicious.

Do you guys still eat Frito boats? I can't be the only one still chowing down on this kid friendly fare. Or maybe I'm five. Sadly, this is what I consider "eating in/cooking." Awesomeeee!

At Target I also picked up "Clueless" on DVD because I only owned it on VHS. Frito boats and "Clueless" -- does it get any better?

Seriously this movie is so great! I love it! I can't believe it came out in 1995 -- and that I was only 11 when it came out! What the heck, that makes me feel old! It reminds me of how I was such a goody-two-shoes I told my mom that I didn't think my little neighbor (who was 7), my sis (who was 9) and I should be allowed to watch it because it said "sex" on the cover of the VHS box. Scandalous! I'm pretty sure my neighbor's mom rented it for us anyway.

"Clueless" also has the best 90s soundtrack -- Radiohead, No Doubt, Counting Crows, The Cranberries, Supergrass, Mighty Mighty Bosstones ... There's also some random stuff by The Muffs, Cracker, Luscious Jackson and Smoking Popes. And David Bowie! And Billie Holiday!

What's one of your fav 90s movies? Oooh now I wanna watch "Reality Bites" and "Empire Records"!

But now I'm off to bed before"Old Man" Marley gets me! Gnite!
p.s. Ok, I lied. I'm kind of really scared. Cross your fingers "Old Man" Marley stays away!
p.p.s. Johnny, come home soon! xoxo
p.p.p.s. Sara McG's comment reminded me that I also fell in love with Paul Rudd in "Clueless." How was I too tired to mention that? And how has that man continued to get cuter? Love the geek-chic! Must be why I fell for my Johnny!

I have Clueless on VHS too! But I sadly have no VCR upon which to watch it.

Also, I feel your pain. I hate sleeping alone in an empty house. Icky.

Girrrlll, frito boats will live on! We make them once in a while, and we make them a lot at family functions :) YUMMERS.

7 days is a lot of time ALONE..I'd be scared and lonely. I hope the kitties will keep you safe!

Empire Records, I love that movie!! That's got to be my personal favorite, haven't watched in it AGES!!! (yeah I can say that because I'm old!)

I have so much to say! Okay I now REALLY want a frito boat. Like bad. Even though it's breakfast time. Hmm.

And okay funny story about Clueless. So I was in like 6th grade when it came out and I desperately wanted to own it, but my mom was like Sex? Dude no way. So she bought me a copy and taped over the "bad" parts with the Shopping Channel. Haha! So when I watched it when I was older I was like Ohhh that's what happened there.

You are so adorable! I would be going stir crazy if Jonathan were away for even 3 days! & who is Old Man Marley?

I've never had a Frito bowl before, but I have a hard time finding good vegetarian chili. Which brand do you use? (Yeah, it does kind of look like dog food, but it sounds delicious!)

HAHA... I'm dying over Steph's comment right now! I have a friend who's parents did that over the scandalous parts of Titanic too. Classic.

My mom wouldn't let me watch Clueless either b/c it said sex on the cover. I think I finally watched it a friends house like a year later. LOVE that movie!

Ok... and now I want a frito boat... with sour cream.

So proud of you for trying to be brave...I'm never brave when my hubs is gone (which thankfully is not very often!) And I too will rig my house "Macaulay Culkin-style"!!! LOL!

Hope your man gets home to you soon! :)

Frito boats, Clueless, Radiohead, Empire Records, Paul Rudd... so many awesome things in one post!!! :o) Hope you make it through being home alone without getting a case of the crazies! I hate it when my hubby goes out of town too, but I have to admit that it's a great time for movie watching with the cats!

I was home alone for a week at the beginning of March and I was REALLY dreading it at first but then I ended up having a great time by myself. I missed my boy but it was still fun to have some me time.

The first two nights I had trouble falling asleep and had to leave a light on, after that it was fine, haha!! Hope you kind of have fun by yourself :-)

@ apricot tea
Old Man Marley is the old guy that Macaulay Culkin is scared of. He's this old widowed guy that the neighborhood kids say actually killed his family or something. But it turns out he's just a lonely grandpa.

Oh, and we use STAGG Chili Vegetable Garden Four-bean chili. It has beans, corn and bell peppers in it. 99 percent fat free! Only 200 cal per serving.

I think Empire Records trumps Clueless, but both are equally vital to one's 90's movie archives. Hang in there while your man is gone, I HATE THAT TOO!!!

I need a Frito boat education... getting the feeling I've never had one. Boo.

I love Clueless! The comment from her dad about his gun and a shovel when she goes on the date with the preppy guy just kills me every time :)
