I would go out tonight, but I haven't got a stitch to wear ...

This outfit was inspired by the monochrome series the lovely Emily from The Black Apple/Some Girls Wander did last year. When I put it together last Friday at first I thought it was too matchy/matchy but then I thought I could maybe try to somewhat channel the look Emily totally rocked. I LOVED how she put together all these different shades of brown or green or red and it just worked. Although I don't think I would catch her in a plain Jane T. Oh how I wish I could steal that girl's wardrobe! I am beyond jealous of her closet!

Apparently the shirt's shade is called "evergreen" and the flats are called "jade" -- and the two shades are actually quite different. Although the detail of the skirt is kind of washed out in the photo, it's a sort of minty green with turquoise pinstripes. (I bought the skirt a million years ago and don't know its nifty shade name.)

purse = Kohls

Oh, and this picture was taken right after I got new blond highlights! Yay!

Summers, especially summers in 100+-degree Fresno, force one to simplify. You can't really jazz up your outfit with tights/leggings or cardigans so you gotta work with what you got. (Not sure exactly what this means. Uh, throw on my fav locket that I can't live without? And maybe some earrings? Or just learn to embrace the simplicity.) You could try a summer scarf but even though they're nice and lightweight, I usually would not suggest it around these parts! I mean, I understand suffering for fashion but suffering + sweating ain't a good combo.

Here's what I wore on Monday. Simple simple. I've lately been steering far clear of skinny jeans and opting for denim shorts or skirts/dresses but the weather cooled down to 93 (much better than 104 or more!) and I decided to risk my legs feeling suffocated inside the hot denim.

I really like the combo of black + brown together. I used to think it was a fashion no-no but I saw a friend pull it off years ago and now I think it's cool. So that's that.

Jeans = Urban Outfitters
Gladiator flats = Bakers
locket = Urban Outfitters

Oh, and please excuse the potted plant graveyard. John and I actually spent Tuesday evening planting new flowers! Hopefully this time around I can keep them alive!

It's so interesting figuring out what clothes are "me" and what type of statement I want to make with fashion. I want to really think about this because I hate when I buy a random dress from Target, wear it once and then hate it. Not good for my bank account or the environment!

I am trying to find "my style" right now. It's a mismatch between really nice things that I save up for but never wear because I don't want to ruin them and cheapie clothes that make me look like a little kid. And now since I am starting my actual career in the fall I am trying to be a little more stringent on what I wear instead of hodge podgy stuff. le sigh.

First of all: hurrah for new highlights! Too pretty!

I adore the pretty color in the first outfit. I've been working on putting more "punches of color" into my clothing choices...I have the habit of sticking with the basics too often.

Thank you for sharing these photos! Makes me want to go out and pick out something cute to wear tomorrow! :)

That first outfit is classic Sarah, but I love the saucy second outfit. Dammit! Hot stuff! Like you're right out of GREASE or something! Love you Sweets!

"Summers, especially summers in 100+-degree Fresno, force one to simplify. You can't really jazz up your outfit with tights/leggings or cardigans so you gotta work with what you got." -- Amen to that! Sometimes I can't enjoy summer because my outfits are too simple because of the bloody heat.

& I love the second outfit! You look like a rockstar!
