Always Look on the Bright Side of Life + A New Car!

The past two weeks have been quite bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S! The last time I checked in with you guys I had just been rear-ended by this wacky girl (I forgot to mention that she seriously asked the police officer taking our police report if "this sort of thing happens all the time?" No, girl -- this is the first car accident in the history of ever!). The rest of the week continued to go downhill.  On Friday afternoon John's mama was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. The next day I was talking to Jimaie about the old superstition that bad things come in threes ... by that evening I learned that my parents had made the tough decision to put our family dog Josie to sleep. I was so sad I was out of town that day and didn't get to say goodbye to our sweet Border Collie.

Although that week seemed to easily earn the title of worst, most teary week ever, I think the lesson to take away from all of the drama is that you can almost always find a silver lining if you're willing to look for it. I can be really good at being dramatic and pessimistic but I'd like to work on making an extra effort to look on the bright side more often!

I'm so thankful that the other driver and I walked away from the car accident alive and without major injuries. I may be a bit sore and achy, but I'm here! I'm so glad that John's mama is going to be OK. She was released from the hospital and sent home after six days with a diagnosis related to complications from diabetes. Although diabetes can be very serious, we're so happy that she didn't have a stroke like we had initially feared.

And although I'm so sad that I'll no longer find Josie waiting for me in the backyard of my parents' house, with her nose pressed against the window looking into the kitchen, I'm really glad that she's no longer in pain. Josie was about 14 years old and had been suffering through a number of ailments in her old age, including falling down and not being able to get up right away. One of my favorite memories of Josie is when my family had first brought her home as a wee puppy. My nana's calico cat Patches (who we had inherited) slept with Josie in a cardboard box to make our timid little puppy feel more at home. I like to think Josie and Patches are hanging out somewhere together right now.

Things are looking up now -- the weather has been delightful, I've discovered some delicious boxed Vanilla Chai tea (so cheap + delicious!) and I'm now the owner of a brand new car! My first time owning a brand new car! Yippee!

After my insurance totaled out my 2003 Corolla, I've upgraded to a 2011 Corolla. Ta-da!

I gotta give a shout out to Michelle Woo's sister Carissa and the best (fake) car commercial ever.  As Carissa says, "And the moon roof is really cool!"

And most importantly -- the bumper to this car is attached!

Oh dear, I'm so sorry about the loss of your family pup. We put our family dog to sleep about a year ago and she was 17. It's a hard choice to make, but it's comforting to know that they lived a long life and that they're no longer suffering.

So glad you're okay. That new car is sexy! :)

Sad to hear about the car accident you got into. Well, you made it unscathed and no one was injured as well, enough to be thankful for. Looks like you're happy and very contented with your new car! Hope that you'd never meet any accidents again with this new one.
